OBS World Endurance Cup: Where Simracers Become Real-World Racers at the Nürburgring

--

Imagine this: You’re a sim racer who’s never actually sat in a high-performance race car, let alone driven one on a legendary track like the Nürburgring. Yet, there you are, gripping the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 (992), tearing down one of the world’s most iconic tracks, all because you emerged victorious in the OBS World Endurance Cup sponsored by Optibet. It’s not just a game; it’s a gateway to a reality many e-motorsport enthusiasts can only dream of and that is what OBS World gave to the winners.

The Ultimate Playground

The winners didn’t just get to drive; they lived and breathed the 5.148-kilometer Nürburgring GP track. This was a full 8-hour event, featuring one pit boxes equipped with simulators and five real-world cars from OBS, offering a unforgettable Nürburgring experience. OBS World is all about breaking barriers between the virtual and the real world. Our winners’ experience at the Nürburgring was a glowing testament to the power of eSports and sim racing to catapult aspiring racers into real-world opportunities.

Sponsored by Optibet, the OBS World Endurance Cup saw a whirlpool of talent from 25 different nationalities, all vying for this life-changing experience. The 16 winners — individuals who had honed their skills exclusively in the virtual world — got to participate in the ultimate event, the Porsche Club Nürburgring Track Day. These were sim racers turned real-world racers, all thanks to their skills in the OBS World Endurance Cup sponsored by Optipet.

Sim racing is a way to start your motorsport journey. “Young people now start with sim racing and if they like it, of course I am sure they will say “One time I have to drive at the Nürburgring, Nordschleife.” They want to feel it in nature”, says the president of Porsche Club Nürburgring.

Frank Mischlich, president of Porsche Club Nürburgring with Dmitrij Juvko, founder of OBS World

We ashed the winners what they thought about the experience. How different sim racing from real car racing? William Chadwick, a professional sim racer shared that “braking was quite a big difference. You have a lot of G-force in the real car. So being able to get up to speed with that, was important. I think by the end of the first session, I was starting to feel confident. And when I went in for the second session, you know, it was just flat-out. The instructor was fantastic. It was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. I think there is more time in it. The racer inside me wants to go faster.”

Cars that Fuel Dreams

The rewards were nothing short of spectacular. Here are the cars thay the top three teams raced:

  • P1 winners got behind the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 (992).
  • P2 had the privilege of piloting the Porsche 911 GT3 991.1, known as “Green Veggie”.
  • P3 winners navigated the track in the Porsche Cayman GT4. The OBS World team got around the track with “Ring Taxi,” the Porsche 911 GT3.
